“Our Colorado Legacy:
Wildlife and Wild Places by Sarah Woods”

May 1 – June 14, 2008

Peaceful Evening- Sarah Woods

The Mitch will open its 2008 Season with the beautiful oil paintings of Sarah Woods. Sarah attributes her crisp bold colors and dramatic lighting to her life at high altitude. Throughout most of Sarah's 22 year career she had built her reputation as a water media artist. Today, her medium of choice is oil, "I love the spontaneity it gives me. The richness and strength of the oil paint is a perfect match for my sense of color. I am enjoying myself as an oil painter more than any time in my career, and I think it shows in my work."

Sarah exhibits in such prestigious shows as the National Museum of Wildlife Art's “Western Visions”, “Cheyenne Frontier Days Show and Sale”, “Birds in Art”, “Masterworks in Miniature” and “Art & the Animal Kingdom”. She was seven times included in the “Arts for the Parks” Competition, twice as an award winner, garnering both the Juror’s Choice and Founder’s Favorite Awards. Sarah has been commissioned by corporations and individuals nationwide. Her paintings hang in the permanent collections of museums such as the Bennington Center for the Arts and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. Sarah has recently celebrated her twentieth year with Trailside Galleries.

In 2007 Sarah also exhibited with the Society of Animal Artists and the American Women artists. In April of 2008 Sarah will also show in the Colorado Governor’s Show, and in May Sarah will be featured in a one woman show at the A.R. Mitchell Museum in Trinidad, Colorado.

Sarah’s work has been featured in American Artist, Art of the West, and Wildlife Art, as well as the cover art for Whitetales and Waterfowl USA. She has also illustrated two naturalist children’s books Rocky Mountain Rabbit and Beneath the Mask.

For Sarah, one of the most rewarding parts of her career is being able to live in the remote and wildlife rich mountains of Southern Colorado with her husband and two daughters. Having lived most of her life in Wyoming and Colorado, Sarah feels passionate about the disappearing western landscape and feels a responsibility to document its fragile beauty. In both her wildlife and “ranch life” paintings, her love of the west shines through. The A.R. Mitchell Museum will exhibit originals as well as giclée reproductions of Sarah’s art, many of which will be available for purchase. Visit Sarah’s website at www.sarahwoodsart.com for an exciting preview and then join us in May and June for this exceptional show.
